The J.M. Smucker Company is decoupling its supply chain organization, splitting logistics and manufacturing into distinct functions in an effort to drive sharper operational focus, faster decision-making, and enhanced long-term scalability.

Under the new structure, Smucker’s supply chain will be led by two executives: Doug Martin, Chief Commercial Officer, will oversee logistics and customer operations, while Dave Lemmon, Senior Vice President of Operations, will lead manufacturing and technical services. Both will report directly to President and COO John Brase.

The company said the change is designed to support its evolving portfolio — which now spans coffee, spreads, pet food, and snacking — and to ensure each segment is served with tailored, agile supply chain strategies. The new model is also intended to improve cross-functional alignment as Smucker continues to invest in automation and advanced analytics.

corpbrief insight:

Supply chain models are becoming as dynamic as the portfolios they support. Smucker’s decoupling move shows how structure itself can be a lever for speed, precision, and enterprise-wide integration.
